Allow women not to wear high heels at work, labor group tells DOLE
A labor group is urging the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to give women the option not to wear high heels at work, especially when their jobs require them to remain standing for long hours.
After receiving complaints from sales attendants who are required to stay on their feet while wearing heels, the Associated Labor Unions Trade Union Congress Of The Philippines (ALU-TUCP) elevated the matter to the DOLE, according to a report on GMA's “Unang Balita.”
According to the labor group, the employees were concerned about the health risks posed by standing for long hours in heels.
Aside from foot and leg pain, wearing high heels can also be a possible cause of accidents, the group added.
ALU-TUCP’s request aims to help salesladies in shopping malls, as well as sales promodizers in supermarkets, waitresses in restaurants, receptionists in hotels, and flight attendants.
The labor group is also calling on the Commission on Higher Education to do the same for students taking hospitality and guest relations courses. — Akari Nakano/MDM/KVD, GMA News
