Andanar: Use of Dole logo in 'DOLE pay rules' story under probe
Communications Secretary Martin Andanar on Saturday said his office is already probing the recent gaffe in the Philippine News Agency (PNA), which had published a labor-related story with a logo of pineapple company Dole.
Andanar said the Presidential Communications Operations Office is also looking into the PNA's online publication of a Xinhua article, which says an international tribunal's decision favoring the Philippines in the South China Sea dispute with China was "ill-founded."
"We are investigating the matter. We've released a show cause order for both cases (Dole incident and the Xinhua article)," Andanar told GMA News Online.
"They will have to explain why they shouldn't face disciplinary action," he added.
The PNA, meanwhile, said that a meeting will be held on Monday on the wrong use of the Dole thumbnail.
Virginia Arcilla, news and information bureau director, said they are still waiting for the results of the investigation.
The PNA has issued an apology over the incident.
"In a story titled 'DOLE issues pay rules for 2018 holidays' posted in the PNA website on Aug. 11, 2017, the accompanying photo was that of Dole Philippines," the agency posted on its official Facebook account.
"In an effort to ensure that all stories are accompanied by a photo, the staff inadvertently attached the wrong photo rather than the logo of the Department of Labor and Employment. It was a careless act on the PNA editorial staff," it added. —ALG, GMA News
