Leni says public should 'express outrage' over bloody Bulacan raids

Vice President Leni Robredo on Thursday urged the public to "express outrage" over the recent 24-hour police anti-drug operation in Bulacan that left 32 suspects dead, according to a 24 Oras report by GMA News' Steve Dailisan.

"Ito na 'yung kailangan nating mag-express ng outrage," Robredo said. "Hindi naman tayo ganyan. Hindi tayo ito."

A critic of President Rodrigo Duterte's violent drug war, Robredo said the public should not allow the "culture of impunity" to return to the country.

"Yung culture of impunity, matagal na nating isinikwal sa ating bansa. Sana huwag na nating ibalik pa," she said.

The Bulacan raids involved 66 province-wide operations carried out from 12 a.m. August 15 to 12 a.m. August 16. Of these, 44 were buy-bust operations, 14 involved the serving of search warrants, one involved the serving of an arrest warrant, and two were anti-criminality checkpoints

Authorities engaged in 20 armed encounters, resulting in the deaths of the 32 drug suspects. Of the 32 killed, 16 were on their drug watch list, two had surrendered before, and 14 were newly identified drug suspects.

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) is already investigating the raids, the 24 Oras report said. —KBK, GMA News
