PNP chief meets with CHR execs at Crame

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa on Tuesday afternoon met with Commission on Human Rights chairperson Chito Gascon as agreed upon during the Senate hearing on the killing of 17-year-old Kian Loyd delos Santos during a police anti-drug operation.

The consultative dialogue was aimed at addressing the miscommunication between the two agencies, and was suggested by Senator Panfilo Lacson, chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs.

During the Senate hearing, Gascon complained that the PNP was not heeding their request for documents with regards to the deaths under investigation in connection with the government’s intensified war against illegal drugs.

Dela Rosa, for his part, said he was not aware of the request but gave assurance that he is willing to meet the CHR anytime.

No information was yet available regarding what transpired during Tuesday's meeting as of posting time.

Present during the meeting were Department of Interior and Local Government officer-in-charge Catalino Cuy, Internal Affairs Service Inspector General Alfegar Triambulo, Counter-Intelligence Task Force head Senior Superintendent Jose Chiquito Malayo, Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management head Director Augusto Marquez, Directorate for Operations head Director Camilo Cascolan, Women and Children Protection Center head Chief Supt. Liborio Carabacan.

Also present were CHR Commissioners Gwendolyn Pimentel-Gana, Leah Tanodra-Armamento, Roberto Eugenio Cadiz, lawyers Flora Atilano, Jasmine Navarro Regino, Jacqueline Ann De Guia, Diana de Leon, Richard Laron, Dr. Joseph Andrew Jimenez, and Rachel Joy Pelayo. —Amita Legaspi/KBK, GMA News
