Bato dela Rosa admits overkill in Kian delos Santos slay
Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa admitted Tuesday that there was an overkill in the police operation that led to the death of Kian Loyd delos Santos on August 16 in Caloocan City.
“Based on forensic report, it was really an overkill na maraming tama yung bata at mukhang nasobrahan, andaming tama,” Dela Rosa said during the Senate hearing on the budget of Department of Interior and Local Government.
He, however, refused to say whether or not Delos Santos was killed by the Caloocan police officers when asked the question by Finance committee chairman Sen. Loren Legarda.
“I cannot say that. Let’s leave it to the court. Patay po siya but hindi ko sinasabi na pinatay. Hindi ko masabi ‘yan (kung pinatay) pero ang masabi ko sobra dahil maraming tama,” he said.
Dela Rosa assured the committee that the abuses committed by police officers will not be tolerated.
“We are giving you the assurance that abuses and excesses that have been committed by my men are being investigated. We will never tolerate any wrongdoing among our ranks,” Dela Rosa said.
“Rest assured na hindi na madagdagan ‘yung ganitong kaso,” he added.
Delos Santos was killed in August during the One Time, Big Time operation of Caloocan City Police in Sta. Quiteria.
The PNP is an attached agency under the supervision of the DILG.

PNP has a proposed 2018 budget of P131 million which is 19 million higher than its P111.6 million budget last year.
The increase in DILG budget is for the creation of new positions for uniformed personnel including 10,000 police officers 1; 2,000 fire officers 1; and 1,000 jail officers 1, and pay allowances for 6,108 additional PO1 recruits.
The agency also seeks to increase food supplies and medicine expenses for the projected 76,276 additional inmates. —NB/KVD, GMA News
