Andanar: Mocha may continue performing with Mocha Girls but should stay away from casinos

Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson may keep performing with her girl group Mocha Girls but her boss, Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, said she should stay away from casinos.

Andanar on Thursday said Uson asked that she be allowed to honor her entertainment contracts when she joined the government.

“Mocha can still perform if she wishes pero I would discourage her from performing in places like casinos,” Andanartold GMA News Online.

Andanar said the Presidential Communications Operations Office was looking into her performances at the Resorts World Manila.

“Anyhow, we are still looking into the matter of Mocha performing inside RW,” Andanar said.

Government workers are prohibited from going to casinos, by Presidential Decree No. 1067-B (series of 1977) and as amended by PD No. 1869 (series of 1983).

This was reiterated by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea in Memorandum Circular No. 2 issued on September 20, 2016.

According to Republic Act No. 6713 or the "Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees," public officials and employees should not “engage in the private practice of their profession unless authorized by the Constitution or law, provided, that such practice will not conflict or tend to conflict with their official functions.” —NB, GMA News
