Sereno forming impeachment legal team —spokesman
The camp of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno is already in the process of forming a legal team that will defend her in the impeachment proceedings filed against her in Congress, her spokesperson said on Wednesday.
Sereno's spokesperson, lawyer Carlo Cruz, said the legal team would be headed by Atty. Alexander Poblador, founding partner of the Poblador Bautista & Reyes law firm.
Poblador earned his law degree from the University of the Philippines in 1978, graduating cum laude and valedictorian.
He placed third in the 1978 Bar Examinations and has a Master of Laws degree from the University of Michigan.
Poblador was Senator Grace Poe's lawyer in her disqualification case in connection with the 2016 presidential election.
He also represented Senator Panfilo Lacson in the double murder case in relation to the brutal killings of publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and driver Emmanuel Corbito last November 2000.
Earlier in the day, the House justice committee found the impeachment complaint filed by lawyer Lorenzo "Larry" Gadon" sufficient in form and substance.
Sereno's camp found the complaint baseless even as it hoped that Congress will decide based on the merits, and affirm their commitment to democracy over partisan or parochial interests.
"In the meantime, the Chief Justice continues to discharge her duties with fairness, integrity and humility," Cruz said. —ALG/KVD, GMA News
