Senator Bam Aquino lashed out at Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. for accusing the Aquino family of being behind the scam that led thousands to UP Los Baños to receive their share from the Marcos wealth.

The camp of former President Benigno Aquino III said the involvement of the Aquino family in the scam was Marcos' "fantasy."

" said Abigail Valte, a spokesperson for the former President.

Marcos Jr. on Thursday accused the family of former President Benigno Aquino III of having a role in the alleged scam that had thousands of people gather at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños in late September supposedly to receive their share from the Marcos wealth.

"It wasn't a money-making proposition. This was a political action on somebody's part," Marcos said at a news forum in Quezon City.

"Sinong, in the past, I don't know how many years, na walang ginawa kundi sirain, gustong sirain, ang pangalan ng mga Marcos, sino ang may pera na gumastos ng ganyan, who has the political wherewithal to pull that kind of thing off, and who will have interest in doing that?" he added.

Asked if he was referring to the Aquino family, Marcos said, "I'm sure they have something to do with that."

The Aquinos have blamed the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos for the assassination of then opposition leader Senator Benigno Aquino III in August 1983.

Thousands went to UPLB on September 23 all the way from Southern Tagalog at the promise of recieving cash sourced from the wealth of the family of the late strongman Marcos. —NB, GMA News
