PNP-HPG to deploy 500 personnel for ASEAN Summit

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be deploying 500 personnel on board motorcycles and patrol cars to secure the heads of states, their spouses, ministers and other delegates attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nation Summit next month.

More than half of the PNP-Highway Patrol Group (HPG) personnel will be assigned to the 28 heads of states.

Senior Inspector Jem Delantes, HPG assistant public information officer, said a total of nine HPG members, including five riding motorcycles and two each in two patrol cars, will be tasked to secure each of the heads of states.

He said the 28 spouses, 63 ministers, 21 delegates will be assigned with two motorcycle-riding HPG enforcers and two onboard a patrol car.

He said they have already requested additional personnel from their regional offices to augment their numbers.

“We requested the Regional Highway Patrol Units to send mobility and personnel to augment our personnel here at the national headquarters,” he said in a press conference.

To prepare for the task, Delantes said they have already started the shipment of mobility assets from their regional offices to their headquarters in Camp Crame.

He said they have also issued helmet, reflective vests, radio, and raincoats to their personnel, and checked their mobile patrol cars and motorcycles for any damage.

Delantes said they have also conducted simulation exercises and route familiarization for their personnel. —Amita Legaspi/KBK, GMA News
