Man with alleged links to the Davao night market bombing surrenders


A man with alleged links to last year's Davao City bombing surrendered to authorities on Sunday afternoon.

Region 12 police chief Chief Superintendent Cedrick Train revealed to GMA News Online that Mohammad "Boy" Lalaog Chenikandiyil surrendered to the Cotabato City Police Office and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (CIDG-ARMM) at 1:20 p.m.

Chenikandiyil was accompanied by his lawyer, Elmer Donasco.

"Coordination is being made sa CIDG 12 kung may involvement po siya sa Davao bombing po," Cotabato City Police Director Rolly Octavio said in a text message.

Chenikandiyil is now under the custody of the CIDG-ARMM.

Some 15 people were killed and 70 others were injured on September 2, 2016 when an improvised explosive device made with mortar bombs was detonated at the Davao City Roxas Night Market

Investigators said the IED was similar to the one used in the at the Davao Ecoland Terminal bombing.

President Rodrigo Duterte, who was in Davao City during the night market bomb attack, declared a state of national emergency because of the lawless violence in Mindanao. — DVM, GMA News
