Senate needs to take active role in talks with communists – Drilon
The Senate needed to take a more active role in the negotiations between the government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP), Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said on Sunday.
“Right now the peace process with the NDF is not being discussed formally or informally in the Senate,” Drilon said during a meeting with the Norwegian Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Drilon had met with the Norwegian officials to discuss the peace and reconciliation efforts between the Philippine government and the NDFP, which the Norwegian government had been facilitating.
“There is a need to involve the Senate in the peace and reconciliation efforts between the Philippines and the NDF because in the end, a law will be [needed] to define the relationship of the parties,” Drilon explained.
