PDEA seizes P500K worth of ecstasy, marijuana in QC

Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) seized P500,000 worth of illegal drugs during a raid in Quezon City, according to a report by Ian Cruz on "24 Oras Weekend" Saturday.

By virtue of a search warrant, PDEA operatives raided an apartment at Barangay Sacred Heart.

Authorities recovered sachets of suspected ecstasy tablets and capsules, bottles containing liquid ecstasy, and a plastic bag containing dried marijuana.

The PDEA arrested alleged drug seller Jerome Cheng and his companion Phil Angelo.

"This is a month-long surveillance. May mga video footage tayo before na nakabili talaga tayo sa kanila," PDEA-National Capital Region Director Levi Ortiz said.

Cheng usually sells ecstasy tablets, which are ordered overseas, in high-end bars in Quezon City, according to the PDEA official.

"They ordered it through the dark net gamit niya bitcoin and then sinesend sa mga parcels nation," Ortiz said.

Cheng admitted that he was into illegal drug trade. However, the suspect insisted that not all the confiscated illegal drugs in his apartment belonged to him.

"Less than 10. Ito hindi ho sa akin 'yan... God knows," Cheng said.

The suspect also cleared his companion Phil Angelo of any involvement.

The confiscated illegal drugs will undergo a laboratory examination, according to PDEA. — Ted Cordero/MDM, GMA News
