Hold-departure order issued vs Pasig lawyer charged with homicide

A court has issued a hold-departure order against a Pasig City Hall lawyer after he was charged for shooting dead a motorist and his passenger in a fit of road rage last Tuesday. QTV-11 on Saturday reported that the order was issued Friday night against Manuel Hernandez Jr, who gained temporary liberty after posting P80,000 bail. Hernandez was also placed on the Bureau of Immigration’s watch list to make sure he would not escape while the case against him progresses in court. Hernandez presently faces two counts of homicide for shooting dead a Makati City executive and his companion following a traffic spat in Pasig City Tuesday afternoon. Investigation showed Hernandez committed a “counter-flow" that led to the altercation with victims Katherine Palmero and Edgardo Canizares . Relatives of Palmero and Canizares earlier voiced fears any case against Hernandez would not prosper because of his position as city hall legal officer. They also cited reports indicating that Hernandez is a nephew of a justice at the Sandiganbayan. Still, Pasig City police have found basis to file homicide charges against Hernandez before the city prosecutor’s office for the killing of Palmero and Canizares. Initial investigation showed Hernandez was driving his Toyota Corolla against the flow of traffic when he figured in an accident with the victims’ Nissan Cefiro at the corner of Shaw Boulevard and Endriga streets. An altercation ensued, and Canizares allegedly kicked Hernandez’s Corolla, prompting Hernandez to draw his 9-millimeter pistol and shoot Canizares six times, and Palmero two times. - GMANews.TV
