Bato promotes cop wounded in encounter with alleged carnappers


Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa on Thursday promoted a police officer for his bravery and courage during an encounter with alleged carnappers.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Police Officer 1 Jaypee Gonzales was promoted on the spot to the next higher rank of Police Officer 2 during the visit of Dela Rosa at the PNP General Hospital in Camp Crame where he was confined.

Dela Rosa, who was accompanied by QCPD head Chief Superintendent Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar awarded Gonzales with the Medalya ng Kagalingan (PNP Medal of Merit) and the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting (PNP Wounded Personnel Medal).

Gonzales and other police personnel were conducting surveillance on the alleged kidnappers when the latter engaged the cops in a shootout.

The PNP chief also visited policemen who were wounded during an ambush in Bicol. They were awarded Glock safe action pistols. —Marlly Rome Bondoc/KG, GMA News
