Duterte favors same-sex marriage: Kung ano kaligayahan ng tao, bakit mo pigilan?

President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday said he is in favor of same-sex marriage.

"Ako gusto ko same-sex marriage, ang problema, we'll have to change the law. Ang batas kasi marriage is a union between a man and a woman. I don't have a problem making it... marrying a man, marrying a woman or whatever is the predilection of the human being," Duterte said during the 7th Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,Transgender (LGBT) gathering in Davao City.

"I am for same-sex marriage. If that is the trend of the modern times, if that will add to your happiness, who am I? You know, kung ano yung kaligayan ng tao bakit mo pigilan? Why impose a morality that is no longer working? So I am with you," Duterte said.

In March this year, Duterte criticized the changing attitudes regarding gender identity, particularly supposed attempts to impose Western values on Philippine society such as same-sex marriage.

Duterte, in the same speech, also vowed that in his term, there would be "no oppression against the all sectors of society."

"I have never oppressed anybody because of race, religion. Talagang I just govern by the rule of fair play, equality. Hanggang diyan lang ako," Duterte said.

"Ayaw ko kasi ang dalawang brother-in-law ko... bakla. Ako noong high school ko, di ko alam kung panglalaki ako o pambabae. Parang gusto ko maging lalaki, gusto ko maging babae, kaya lang sa Philippine Women's maraming maganda doon kaya ako na-tempt," Duterte added. — Anna Felicia Bajo/BM, GMA News
