FROM P67.5k to P121.1k

Bato dela Rosa gets 79% pay hike due to joint reso, TRAIN

PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa will receive a 79-percent pay hike starting this month following the enactment of Joint Resolution No. 1 and the Tax Reforms for Acceleration and Inclusion, a document from the office of the PNP comptroller showed.

Dela Rosa, who is scheduled to retire in April, will have P53,643 added to his previous base pay of P67,500 and have a new salary of P121,143.

Among the PNP personnel, Dela Rosa will receive the third highest increase with Police Officers 1 receiving a 100-percent salary hike, Police Officers 2 with an 82-percent increase.

The director general and his deputy directors general will all have a 79-percent hike.

Among the key provisions of the TRAIN is the decrease in personal income tax rates while Joint Resolution No. 1 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in January is the increase in pay of uniformed personnel.

The withholding tax rate for police officers is decreased by 69.24 percent for PO1s and 21.36 percent for the director general.

Chief Superintendent Joselito Vera Cruz, executive officer of the directorate of comptrollership, said the police personnel will also have increased longevity pay, flying pay, sea duty pay, instructor’s duty pay, and higher benefits upon retirement.

He said the hazard pay would be fixed at P540 per month.

Police officials will no longer receive officers’ and provisional allowances.

“In effect, parang ‘yung sa officers and provisional allowances parang nilipat lang doon sa base pay so this will be advatangeous lalo na sa magreretire kasi their pension will be computed based on the current rate,” Vera Cruz said at a press conference.

Dela Rosa is supposed to retire on January 21 when he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 56. Duterte extended his term for three months and Dela Rosa will retire in April.

The salary of the next PNP chief will increase to P149,785 in January 2019, according to the modified base pay schedule. —NB, GMA News
