Of the number, 50 have since been discharged and only 22 are left under QMMC's care, said Ofelia De Leon, MD, OIC of the medical center's training and research department.

De Leon said that all the 72 patients from different barangays in Quezon City had been given Dengvaxia shots, the controversial anti-dengue vaccine believed to trigger more severe dengue virus infection among recipients who have not been infected in the past.

That revelation last November by Dengvaxia maker French pharmaceutical firm Sanofi Pasteur has caused anxiety and fear among the parents of the more than 800,000 children who received the anti-dengue shots under the Department of Health's immunization program. —LBG, GMA News
