Napolcom: Removal of height requirement only for PNP entrance exam, not for recruitment

The National Police Commission (Napolcom) clarified Tuesday that the removal of the height requirement only applies to the entrance examination and not for recruitment purposes of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

In a press statement, the Napolcom stated the requirements for taking the PNP entrance examination are distinct and separate from the general qualifications required in the recruitment of qualified applicants for Police Officer 1 (PO1).

It said the height requirement for those who want to enter the police service was still at least 1.62 meters for men and 1.57 meters for women.

In an interview, PNP Deputy Chief for Operations Deputy Director General Fernando Mendez said they have not removed the height requirement.

“There is a proposal na ibaba yung requirement, yung sa lalaki 5'4” to 5'2" then 5'2” sa babae then to 5” pero hindi pa tinatanggal ‘yun,” he told reporters.

The Napolcom said taking and passing the PNP entrance examination is not a guarantee for automatic entry to the police force.

It said only those who possess the general qualifications specified under Section 14 of Republic Act No. 8551 are qualified for appointment as member of the PNP.

“To set the record straight, the Commission reiterates that the removal of height limit applies to examination purposes only, and not to police recruitment as reported by some media entities,” it stated.

It added that height requirement is still included in the set of basic qualifications of the PNP that must be complied with by qualified applicants who aspire to become policemen. —ALG, GMA News
