Palace backs Calida in pushing homicide raps vs. Noynoy
Solicitor General Jose Calida was right when he asked Supreme Court to order the Office of the Ombudsman to file homicide charges against former President Benigno Aquino III, Malacañang said Friday.
“[SolGen] as counsel of the Government is correct. There ought to be accountability for those responsible for the SAF 44 debacle,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a text message to reporters.
Calida backed the petition filed by two relatives of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force commandos who were killed in the clash with Moro rebels in Mamasapano in 2015.
He asked the SC to nullify the Ombudsman's decision that dismissed the reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide charges the petitioners had filed against Aquino, former PNP chief Alan Purisima, and former SAF director Getulio Napeñas Jr.
Calida also urged the high court to stop the arraignment of Aquino, Purisima, and Napeñas before the Sandiganbayan Fourth Division on February 15. —NB, GMA News
