7 judges make shortlist for CA post

Seven trial court judges on Friday made it to the shortlist of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) for a vacant post in the Court of Appeals (CA).

Vying for the post vacated by retired CA Justice Leoncia Dimagiba last December are judges Emily Aliño-Geluz (Las Piñas City Regional Trial Court), Ma. Celestina Cruz-Mangrobang (Manila RTC), Angelene Mary Quimpo-Sale (Quezon City RTC), Merianthe Pacita Zuraek (Manila RTC), Dorothy Montejo-Gonzaga (Panabo RTC),  Mia Joy Oallares-Cawed (Baguio City RTC), and Rowena De Juan-Quinagoran (Pasig City RTC).

The names were submitted by the JBC, a multi-sectoral screening body led by Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, to President Rodrigo Duterte, who will make the final appointment. 

There are still two vacancies in the appellate court following the promotion of one of its members to presiding justice and the death of another magistrate.

Applications or recommendations for the position vacated by now Presiding Justice Romeo Barza and the late CA Justice Florito Macalino would be accepted until February 13, according to the JBC.  — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
