The local government of Taguig City on Sunday promised to donate P3 million worth of assistance to residents of Albay province affected by erupting of Mayon Volcano.

In a statement, the city government said that the donation includes a total of 3,000 relief packs consisting of hygiene kits, face masks, rice, and canned goods.

"We've seen the news and we know that they really need our help. We hope that through this simple act, we will be able to give them hope and love," Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano said.

Cayetano also urged Taguigeños to pray for the safety and well-being of the people in the province of Albay.

Taguig City has started its medical mission at Bagumbayan Central School in Legazpi City, providing free medical assistance to the families in the evacuation centers.

The medical mission will proceed to Sto. Domingo town on Monday, the statement added.

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) Director Renato Solidum Jr. earlier said they had detected three eruption episodes overnight as restive Mayon Volcano continued its heightened activity.

PHIVOLCS data showed that the lava fountaining events were detected at 6:22 p.m. Saturday; 12:45 a.m. and 5:36 a.m. Sunday. Alert Level 4 remains in effect over the volcano, which means a hazardous eruption is possible within days.

More than 89,000 people have been evacuated from communities within the eight-kilometer danger zone around the volcano. —Anna Felicia Bajo/LBG, GMA News
