DOH records over 10,000 dengue cases in 1st six weeks of 2018

The Department of Health has recorded more than 10,000 cases of dengue nationwide in the first six weeks of the year.

The Dengue Disease Surveillance Report showed that from January 1 to February 10, 2018, a total of 10,980 were diagnosed with dengue fever, according to a report by Mao dela Cruz on Super Radyo DZBB on Saturday.

The report also recorded 51 deaths in the same period.

However, the data is 41.38% lower compared to the same period last year where 18,731 cases were recorded.

Further, most of the dengue cases were recorded in places where the mass dengue vaccination program was reportedly implemented.

DOH has recorded 2,503 cases in the area of Calabarzon, 1,964 cases in Central Luzon, and 1,820 cases in the National Capital Region.

Dengue cases have decreased throughout the country, except in three regions.

Three regions that have shown an increase in dengue cases were the Ilocos region, which recorded a 121% increase, followed by the Cordillera Administrative Region with 55% and Calabarzon with 25%.

Twenty three point four percent of those who had dengue in the mentioned period were ages 10 to 14 years old. —Jamil Joseph Santos/LBG, GMA News
