Duterte on Time cover anew as one of world’s ‘strongmen’

President Rodrigo Duterte has again figured prominently in Time Magazine's coverage, this time being featured on the cover and its top story on what the influential publication called "the strongman era" in the world of international politics.

Featured on the cover and on the cover story aside from Duterte are Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"In every region of the world, changing times have boosted public demand for more muscular, assertive leadership. These tough-talking populists promise to protect 'us' from 'them'," Ian Bremmer wrote in his article.

"In the Philippines, a rising tide of violent street crime helped elect Rodrigo Duterte, a former mayor who talked more like a Mob boss than a President, on his promises to wipe out the drug trade with his own brand of justice," he added in reference to the Filipino leader. —NB, GMA News
