RECYCLE CAMPAIGN MATERIALS

Miss Earth beauties, EcoWaste call for waste-free barangay, SK elections

Miss Earth contestants and members of environmental watchdog EcoWaste Coalition gathered at the gates of the Commission on Elections on Wednesday to call for lesser waste in the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

According to a report on Balitanghali by GMA News' Oscar Oida, the beauty contestants and environmental advocates said poll candidates should limit the production of campaign materials like posters, tarpaulins and streamers and consider house-to-house campaigning instead.

Candidates with materials already printed out were urged to be responsible for the post-election waste and consider recycling instead of merely disposing them.

The group also warned candidates against nailing flyers and posters on trees.

The protesters who held placards saying "Isipin ang kalikasan" and "Vote for Mother Earth", left the area after an hour-long demonstration. —Margaret Claire Layug/KG, GMA News
