AFTER 8-6 VOTE

Gadon wants Sereno’s photo taken down from SC wall

Lawyer Larry Gadon on Friday said he will ask the Supreme Court to take down ousted Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno's photo from the high court's wall of chief justices.

In a forum on the day the SC voted 8-6 to grant the quo warranto petition against Sereno, Gadon noted that Sereno's appointment to the top magistrate position has just been voided by her colleagues in a landmark ruling.

Gadon, who has filed an impeachment complaint against Sereno, said he plans to write a letter to the SC on Tuesday about his request.

The quo warranto questioning the validity of Sereno's appointment was filed before the SC in March by Solicitor General Jose Calida, who accused her failing to submit all her Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Networth (SALNs) when she was applying for the post in 2012.

Those who voted in favor of granting the petition were Associate Justices Teresita De Castro, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Francis Jardeleza, Samuel Martires, Noel Tijam, Andres Reyes, Jr. and Alexander Gesmundo.

Meanwhile, those who voted against it were Acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio, Associate Justices Marvic Leonen, Benjamin Caguioa, Estela Perlas Bernabe, Presbitero Velasco and Mariano Del Castillo.

Sereno, newly back at work from a two-month leave, presided over the full court meeting but recused herself from deliberations on the quo warranto pleading. —KBK, GMA News
