Fire hits construction site at Luneta park in Manila - report
A fire hit a construction site for the Manila Ocean Park project at Luneta Park, Sunday afternoon, radio station dzBB reported. The report quoted the Manila Fire Department as saying that the blaze, which broke out at the back of the Quirino Grandstand reached second alarm, and was put out after an hour or so. Another dzBB report past 3 p.m., said a construction worker, initially identified as Elmer Tanega, 34, sustained minor burns from the blaze. The report quoted investigators as saying that the blaze started from sparks of welding slabs at the circular tower of the building under construction. The sparks grew into fire after these fell on sheets of thermal insulation materials, and were blown by strong winds coming from the Manila Bay. DzBB said Tanega's right foot became swollen after the shoe he was wearing burned from the fire. Authorities said Tanega's foot would immediately be treated, so it won't get infected. - with reports from Amita Legaspi, GMANews.TV
