Protests break out at universities after Sereno ouster decision

Several protest actions broke out across Metro Manila on Friday hours after the Supreme Court ousted Maria Lourdes Sereno from the chief justice post.

Indignation rallies were staged in late afternoon after the SC voted 8-6 to grant the quo warranto petition of Solicitor General Jose Calida to nullify Sereno's appointment to the highest seat in the judiciary.

Student groups from Ateneo de Manila and Miriam College along with other individuals gathered along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City, where they were later joined by groups from University of the Philippines-Diliman.

Students from the UP Manila, UP Los Baños, University of Santo Tomas, and the Polytechnic University also staged protest actions.

Individuals also took to small acts of solidarity, like leaving a candle in front of the Supreme Court, to protest the decision.
