(Update) Fever-stricken Querubin rushed to hospital
Marine Col. Ariel Querubin, one of the alleged leaders of last year's attempt to grab power, was rushed to a military hospital due to high fever and chilling, his wife and his lawyer said Sunday. "Ariel is in V. Luna now but nothing serious," said Querubin's wife, Ma. Flor, referring to the AFP Medical Center on V. Luna road in Quezon City. "He will be confined and will have a complete medical checkup," said Mrs Querubin of her husband who is a detainee at the AFP Custodial Center, Camp Capinpin, Tanay, Rizal. Querubin and 27 other officers, including former Marine commandant Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda and former Scout Ranger chief Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim, are being tried by court martial in connection with the failed power grab in February last year. "He just had fever and chills this morning. The doctor went to the detention center and he was immediately brought to the hospital," Mrs Querubin said. She said authorities are banning mediamen from seeing or interviewing her husband inside the hospital. Querubinâs lawyer, Homobono Adaza, sounded alarming when asked of his client's condition. "He was rushed to the hospital because he was having chills, fever. I think, they (doctors) will have to check him up...It has something to do with malaria. It could be life threatening. This is not ordinary malaria. This is serious malaria," said Adaza. Querubin had contracted the malaria disease while assigned in Mindanao. He is a recipient of the Medal of Valor, the highest combat medal that was conferred to him for a feat against secessionist forces. - GMANews.TV
