Inspection of Glorietta 2 fails to push through
The scheduled temporary closure of all Glorietta malls in Makati City at 8 p.m., Monday, did not push through, radio dzBB reported. The report said the Ayala Land Inc, owner of Glorietta malls 1, 2, 3, and 4, requested the city government not to push through with the closure until the authorities come out with the final result of their investigation. The Makati City Engineering Office earlier ordered the temporary closure of the malls in Ayala Center. Makati Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado said the closure would help city engineers and structural experts of Ayala Land, Inc. to determine the safety of the malls. He said the closure order was issued by city engineer Nelson Morales. On Friday, October 19, Glorietta 2 exploded and killed 11 people and hurt at least 112 others. On Sunday, October 21, a fire broke out at a restaurant in Glorietta 4. As this developed, radio dzBB in another report said the scheduled inspection of the Glorietta 2 mall by city officials did not also push through. The inspection was supposed to start at 8 p.m., after the mall's temporary closure. However, the report said Mercado and other city officials did not show up. DzBB said Mercado invited the media to witness the inspection, but he was no where near the Glorietta site, and could not be contacted through his cellular phone as of posting time. - GMANews.TV
