DOJ chief Guevarra gets CA nod

The Commission on Appointments (CA) on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian presented Guevarra to the CA plenary after a caucus of the committee on justice, which the senator heads.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea was present when Guevarra faced the CA committee on justice earlier in the day.

Sought for comment, Guevarra thanked the CA for confirming his appointment "without any objection or reservation."

"Now I can go full speed at the DOJ," he said in a text message.

Guevarra was Medialdea's deputy prior to his appointment to the Department of Justice to replace resigned secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II.

He also served as Deputy Executive Secretary for Legal Affairs during the term of former President Benigno Aquino III and was a commissioner at the Philippine Competition Commission.

Guevarra had worked for the National Economic and Development Authority, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and was a faculty member of the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law. —with a report by Nicole-Anne C. Lagrimas/ALG/BM, GMA News
