Add’l cops eyed in BGC after stabbing incident involving Jeron Teng, 2 others

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde on Monday said more policemen will be deployed in Bonifacio Global City following the stabbing incident that involved PBA player Jeron Teng and two others.

"Ang nakita ko siguro, I think with dun sa nangyari diyan, kailangan talaga 'yung visibility along that road kasi talagang diyan sa lugar na 'yan, matao palagi 'yan," said Albayalde, referring to the Fort Strip, in an interview on Unang Balita.

"I think 'yung mga bigyan natin ng direktiba 'yung Chief of Police diyan na dagdagan 'yung police diyan, lalung-lalo na kapag may panahon na maraming umiinom," he added.

He said SWAT teams regularly patrol BGC.

Teng and companions Norbert Torres and Thomas Torres, who are also basketball players, were hurt in a stabbing incident during a brawl early Sunday morning.

Albayalde said the suspects, who were drunk, attempted to have the players take pictures with them, a gesture which the believed to be equally-inebriated players did not appreciate.

"Una yata nasigawan sila ng 'idol,' parang minasama yata nila 'yun, 'idol, pa-picture, pa-autograph,' parang ganun yata. Pero mukhang parehong lasing 'yung dalawang grupo. So dun nagsimula yung gulo," said Albayalde.

Police arrested two of the suspects, identified as Edmar Manalo and Willard Basili, who will be charged with Frustrated Homicide and Less Serious Physical Injuries. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
