Mocha Uson part of panel in DILG’s women empowerment film fest
Controversial PCOO Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson has been named to the executive committee of CineMarya, a government film festival aimed at promoting women empowerment.
Uson's involvement in the gender sensitivity initiative of the Department of Interior and Local Government and the Film Development Council of the Philippines comes on the heels of her defense of President Rodrigo Duterte kissing a married overseas Filipino worker in Seoul.
According to DILG Assistant Secretary Marjorie Jalosjos Cinemarya doubles as an information campaign for women's rights and seeks to "make gender sensitization the way of life of every Filipino" and as a competition for filmmakers to challenge them to create relevant and inspiring content for women.
"Gusto ko lang naman na ay mabigyan ng boses ang kababaihan, matanggal ang diskriminasyon, at magkaroon ng lakas ng loob na [ipaglaban] na ang babae ay equal sa lalake," Jalosjos told the press during the launch.
Uson, however, was a no-show during the launch.
Other members of the festival's executive committee include Commission on Women Commissioner Noreen Capili, Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, Lady Legislators' League of the Philippines President Jo Kristine Revil, National Commission for Culture and the Arts Chair Virgilio Almario, Movie and Television Review and Classification Board Chair Maria Rachel Arenas, Film Academy of the Philippines Director General Leo Martinez, and Ginnie Oribiana of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines form the festival's executive committee.
Other members of the executive committee were also missing from the panel like Almario and Belmonte, but were represented by Teddy Co and Prof. Ed Lejano respectively.
Uson, the leader of the sexy group Mocha Girls, was recently involved in a tiff with former presidential daughter Kris Aquino.
As the outrage over Duterte kissing an OFW grew, Uson defended his behavior by uploading a video that compared the act to that of former senator Ninoy Aquino being kissed by two women on a plane.
Uson has refused to apologize to Aquino even after Duterte and his aide Bong Go have said sorry to the former presidential sister. —NB, GMA News
