Muslim families, friends celebrate Eid al-Fitr at Quirino Grandstand
Muslim families performed their Eid prayers on Friday at the Quirino Grandstand to celebrate Eid al-Fitr or the end of the 29-day religious tradition.
As seen in a report by Marisol Abdurahman on Unang Balita, the Muslim population of Manila gathered at the Rizal Park grandstand to welcome the end of the fasting holiday and begin their celebrations.
Per tradition, a festival and family picnics followed the Salat al-Eid or special prayers during Eid al-Fitr.
Eid al-Fitr or the “the feast of the breaking of the fast” marks the end of this year's Ramadan period for 1.6 billion Muslims around the world.
It begins when a new moon is sighted by religious authorities and can last up to three days.
Apart from having their first meal at daylight with friends and family, Zakat al-Fitr or charity contributions are also traditional for the occasion. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
