2 suspects in Genesis Argoncillo's killing undergo inquest

Two inmates identified as suspects in the killing of Genesis "Tisoy" Argoncillo have undergone inquest proceedings, according to a report on Balitanghali on Saturday.

Argoncillo, who was detained at a jail cell inside a Novaliches Police station, died of multiple blunt force trauma while in police custody.

Richard Bautista and Justin Mercado, both alleged to be members of the Sputnik Gang, were identified by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) as the suspects who mauled their fellow detainee.

QCPD director Chief Superintendent Joselito Esquivel Jr. had said murder charges will be filed against the two suspects.

Bautista and Mercado declined to give a statement as of this posting.

Argoncillo was arrested by police in June 15 on account of wearing no shirt as he was out to by cellphone load in Novaliches.

It was revealed that he was not brought to the hospital until the day after he complained that he was having difficulty in breathing.

The QCPD has denied that it tried to cover up the fact that its detainee Genesis Argoncillo was beaten to death while in its custody. — Margaret Claire Layug/MDM, GMA News
