4 robbers, 1 cop killed in Cubao shootout

Four robbers and a policeman were killed in a shootout in Cubao, Quezon City late Thursday afternoon. Radio dzBB reported that the shootout occurred around 5:30 p.m. after a police patrol team chased and cornered the group of robbers at the corner of P. Tuazon and 15th Avenue, shortly after they broke into a manpower firm. The four robbers, three of whom were killed on the spot, were not immediately identified. On the other hand, the policeman who was slain in the shootout was identified only as Insp. Ordiz of the elite Philippine National Police Special Action Force. Quezon City police chief Sr. Supt. Magtanggol Gatdula said Ordiz was wearing a bulletproof vest but some of the bullets fired at him slipped through an opening in the vest. For his part, Supt. Procopio Lipana, chief of the Cubao police station, said the firefight lasted for 15 minutes, before the robbers were neutralized. Initial investigation showed the men boarded a passenger FX vehicle (PXK-108) after the heist but a police team blocked them at the corner of P. Tuazon and 15th Avenue where the shootout ensued. - GMANews.TV
