Hardware failure downs gov’t websites —DICT
Several government websites were inaccessible on Tuesday due to a hardware failure at the government's data center, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said.
"The Government Web Hosting Service (GWHS) is experiencing hardware failure on one of its storage systems that is affecting its overall function. As a result, several government websites are currently down and inaccessible," the DICT said in an advisory.
DICT Asistant Secretary Allan Silor said in a phone interview that initial reports found that around 170 websites are down but the department is now conducting an inventory to determine the exact number of sites affected.
Silor also took note that the government websities were not hacked and will soon be up after a hardware maintenance.
"Walang hacking inract naman ang cyber and physical security," he said.
He said that the government websites will be restored before the end of the week.
The DICT official added that the department may resort to an emergency procurement if the hardware needs to be replaced as these were procured six years ago. —NB, GMA News
