Director Joyce Bernal wants a ‘patriotic’ feel in Duterte’s SONA

Acclaimed director Joyce Bernal on Thursday said she wants a "patriotic" feel in President Rodrigo Duterte's third State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Bernal, who has been tasked to direct the President's SONA this July 23, visited the Plenary Hall of the House of Representatives to make an ocular inspection of the venue.

Bernal succeeded award-winning filmmaker Brillante Mendoza in directing the SONA after the latter took charge for two consecutive years.

She admitted that she feels "very honored" to be chosen to direct the President's report to the people.

"Very honored. First time ko.

In their meeting on Wednesday, the Office of the President informed Bernal about their wishes as regards the SONA.

Bernal said the office wants the public to have a "feel" of how the President will speak to the nation.

"Yung pakiramdam na yun, kung paano magsasalita sa nation as mayor, as a father and as the president of the Philippines. Gusto nilang maramdaman yun," she said.

"Gusto ko sana ng magandang sequencing ng shots niya na in three shots makukuha niyo na paano yung pagmamahal niya sa Pilipinas," she added.

Bernal is known for directing blockbuster Filipino comedy films, most of them were screened at the annual Metro Manila Film Festival. — RSJ, GMA News
