Enrile wishes Ombudsman Morales ‘good luck’ on impending retirement

Former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile only has a simple message for retiring Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales, who has filed plunder charges against him over his alleged role in the pork barrel fund scam.

"I wish her good luck," Enrile said an interview with reporters Friday after attending his pre-trial at the Sandiganbayan Third Division.

Morales, through the Office of the Ombudsman, charged Enrile for plunder in 2014 for allegedly amassing P172.8 million by channeling his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) to the fake foundations of alleged scheme mastermind, Janet Lim Napoles.

However, four years later, the case has yet to proceed in a full blown trial due to Enrile's bill of particulars.

The pre-trial has been reset to August 31 since both camps are still unfinished in their marking of evidence. Only Enrile's case is still in the early stages of the proceedings.

The cases of his former colleagues — Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. — are already standing trial, with the latter already in its final stage before it is submitted for decision.

Morales will retire as Ombudsman on July 26.

In August 2015, the Supreme Court allowed Enrile to post bail on humanitarian reasons. — Joseph Tristan Roxas/RSJ, GMA News
