Scout master dismayed over Roque ‘campaign’, jingle at BSP event

A scout coordinator of a school in Sta. Rosa, Laguna has posted on Facebook a video of what he said was premature campaigning by presidential spokesman Secretary Harry Roque at a scouting event in Botolan, Zambales.

Janus Munar of Canossa School said participants at the 13th BSP National Rover Moot were busy with camping activities inside Camp Kinaomayan when they were called to gather in front of the stage.

“The emcee asked all the Rovers to gather in the grand arena because a guest has just arrived…The Rovers have to stop their activities just to listen to the early election campaign of no other than the Speaker Mr. Harry Roque,” Munar said.

He said a local official even urged the participants to ask six of their family members to vote Roque for senator.

In the video Munar posted, a woman was heard saying, “Si Nanay, si tatay, si kuya, si ate, si pinsan, si tiyahin.  Senador na po si Harry Roque.”

Also heard in the video was what sounded like a campaign jingle made for Roque. The song was done to the tune of “We Will Rock You.”

Munar said the Boy Scouts should be spared from politics.

“We are Boy Scouts! We know no political parties! We don’t bring politics inside scouting, worse in the camp! We don’t bring any political name in the brotherhood!” Munar said.

Wendel Avisado, Boy Scouts of the Philippines national president and presidential assistant, in a comment on the post said: “It is unfortunate that it happened in Botolan, Zambales. No such thing happened in Cebu City and Zamboanga City. The Camp Chief should not have allowed it.”

GMA News Online has asked Roque for comment but has yet to receive any as of posting time. —NB, GMA News
