Groups continue to gather at Senate to express support for Trillanes
Groups held various programs on Sunday as an expression of support for opposition Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
In a report on GMA's "24 Oras Weekend" on Sunday, the programs were held outside the Senate by Tindig Pilipinas and the Liberal Party.
"He is the symbol of the opposition, he is the rallying point," Jao Orogo, member of the Liberal Party, said in the report.
Trillanes earlier in the day also faced media, reiterating that he has no plans to turn himself in.
"Merong advice sa akin ang mga lawyers kasi. I cannot turn myself in because we would lose 'yung aming reason to question the validity and legality of the arrest," he said in the report.
Last week President Rodrigo Duterte signed Proclamation No. 572, which revoked the amnesty granted to Trillanes in 2011 for his involvement in unsuccessful attempts to overthrow the administration of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. It also ordered his arrest.
For the last few days Trillanes' supporters have gathered at the Senate, where the senator has been staying for a week, in the absence of a court-issued warrant of arrest against him.
Duterte said Trillanes will not be arrested without a proper warrant, and that the judicial process will be followed.
Trillanes, however, expressed doubts over such pronouncements, saying both the military and the police have orders to have him arrested even without a warrant. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
