At least 250,000 affected by Typhoon Ompong —NDRRMC


The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Sunday said 250,036 people or 63,769 families were affected by Typhoon Ompong.

Of this number, a total of 148,283 persons or 37,910 families were from Regions I, II, III, National Capital Region, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Cordillera Administrative Region, according to NDRRMC's 6 a.m. report.

The government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development, local government units and nongovernment organizations has provided assistance worth P9,044,156.65 to affected families in Regions I, III, Mimaropa, NCR, and CAR.

In Kalinga, a  landslide occurred in Poblacion, Salegseg, Balbalan, affecting the Western Kalinga District Hospital. No casualties were reported but eight patients were transferred to the Rural Health Unit in Balbalan.

Meanwhile, in Labo, Camarines Norte, an L300 van bound for Basu from Cavite figured in an accident. Thirteen passengers had minor injuries and were assisted by the Labo Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the barangay council.

Classes were suspended in 945 cities and municipalities in Regions I, II, III, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, V, VI, VIII, IX, Caraga, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the National Capital Region. Of this number 76 cities and municipalities have resumed classes.

Work in government offices was also suspended in 228 cities and municipalities in Regions I, II, III, VI, IX, XIII, and CAR on Thursday and Friday.

Meanwhile, 127 international and 125 domestic flights were canceled due to inclement weather.

Some 4,202 passengers, 619 rolling cargoes, 89 vessels, and 75 motor bancas were stranded in seaports.

Power

Power interruption was experienced in 141 areas in Regions I, Calabarzon, V, VIII, IX, X, CAR and NCR.

Seventy-seven transmission lines were affected as of Saturday, of which 33 were restored.

Roads, floods

The NDRRMC said 25 road sections were affected by the heavy rains in Regions I, V, IX, and CAR.

Meanwhile, 79 areas were flooded in Region III and Calabarzon as of Saturday. —KG, GMA News
