Duterte signs law creating Cavite's eighth legislative district


President Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law the measure creating an eighth legislative district in vote-rich Cavite province months before the 2019 midterm elections.

Duterte approved Republic Act 11069 on September 14, which identified the following areas comprising the eighth district: Tagaytay City, Alfonso, General Aguinaldo, Magallanes, Maragondon, Mendez, Naic and Ternate.

General Trias City, meanwhile, joined other cities in the province that became a sole legislative district.

The other districts are:

First District

  • Cavite City
  • Kawit
  • Noveleta
  • Rosario

Second District

  • Bacoor City

Third District

  • Imus City

Fourth District

  • Dasmariñas City

Fifth District

  • Carmona
  • General Mariano Alvarez
  • Silang

Sixth District

  • General Trias City

Seventh District

  • Trece Martires City
  • Indang
  • Tanza
  • Amadeo

According to the law, the current representatives of the sixth and seventh legislative districts shall continue to represent their districts until the election of new representatives in May 2019.

The Commission on Elections is also mandated to issue the implementing rules and regulations within 30 days from the law's approval. —KBK, GMA News
