Mocha Uson resigned, not fired — Medialdea

Former Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson resigned from her post, a top Malacañang official insisted Monday, following a report that President Rodrigo Duterte dismissed her from her post.

“Not true. She resigned,” Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said in a text message to GMA News Online.

Citing an unnamed source, an online news report said Duterte had not spoken to Uson since last month as it apparently indicated that the President got fed up with her.

Uson had courted controversy for allegedly spreading disinformation online. She also drew flak for posting a racy video on federalism and a video of her friend, blogger Drew Olivar, flailing his arms around pretending to do the sign language, on her Facebook page.

He could also be heard making squeaking sounds.

Uson filed her resignation on September 28 that was submitted to Duterte on October 1, a day before she announced in a Senate hearing that she quit her post as a "sacrifice" in hopes of a swift approval of the P1.47-billion proposed budget of the Presidential Communications Operations Office for 2019.

Uson was referring to the deferment of the PCOO's budget hearing in the House of Representatives twice due to her absence.

She returned last week to the country following her attendance at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Following her resignation, Uson vowed to get back at her critics, expressed openness to seeking an elective post and said that she will campaign against so-called “traditional politicians.” — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
