Chel Diokno files COC for senator, vows to fight for justice for poor

Human rights lawyer Jose Manuel "Chel" Diokno will fight for justice for the poor once he succeeds in his bid for Senate.

"Katarungan para sa lahat lalo na sa mahihirap," Diokno told reporters Tuesday when asked about his advocacy.

Diokno filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator at the Comelec head office in Intramuros, Manila.

Diokno said he is not a member of the Liberal Party, only a nominee, but added that the opposition fully supports him.

"Nominated po ako ng Liberal Party pero hindi ako member ng LP, nominated lang," he said.

Diokno also remarked that it is still too early to determine the number of supporters that he will get from the public.

He reiterated that he is not bothered with the results of recent senatorial surveys in which he ranked 23rd to 24th, outside of the winning circle of 12.

"Talagang ganyan 'yan, maaga pa eh. Siguro malalaman na lang natin 'yan bandang January," Diokno said.

Diokno is the son of former Senator Jose "Pepe" Diokno who was detained during the dark days of Martial Law. — RSJ, GMA News
