Erin Tañada files COC for senator: I welcome the challenge

Former Deputy Speaker Lorenzo "Erin"  Tañada III on Tuesday filed his certificate of candidacy for senator in the 2019  elections, saying pre-election surveys do not dissuade him in any way for an aspiration that he said is six years in the making.

“The Senate should have people who are willing to hear out the concerns of the people. On surveys, I am the in the same position as I was in 2012 in terms of awareness, but I welcome the challenge,” Tañada, who will be running under the Liberal Party, said.

Tañada, one of the authors of the Anti-Trust law which bans monopolies, is the son of former Senator Wigberto Tañada, who was one of the 12 senators who voted to oust the US bases in the country in 1992.

In addition, Tañada’s grandfather, Lorenzo Tañada, was also a former senator and a Martial Law activist.

Tañada was supposed to be included in the LP senatorial slate in the 2013 elections but his run was eventually shelved reportedly due to his low rankings in pre-election surveys. —KBK, GMA News
