National crime rate down by 17.39% during H1 2018 – PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday announced that the national crime rate had slowed by 17.39 percent during 2018's first half.

"Kung ikukumpara natin ito sa mga previous administration talagang record-breaking ito, 'yung pagbaba, 'yung continuous down trend ng crime volume natin," PNP Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde told GMA News TV's "State of the Nation with Jessica Soho".

The PNP chief explained that the reduced rate was due to the government's campaign against drugs.

"Nung tayo'y nag-concentrate on illegal drugs, talagang parang may direct connection yung pagbaba ng all other crimes na nagyayari, lalong lalo na 'yung mga index crimes," explained

The PNP has also noted that there were fewer incidents in the 8 Focus Crime Categories during 2018's first half compared to the same period last year.

According to police statistics:

  • murder was down 29.54 percent,
  • homicide was down 9.47 percent,
  • physical injury was down 33.80 percent,
  • rape reduced by 24.82 percent,
  • robbery fewer by 34.40 percent,
  • theft reduced by 36.90 percent,
  • carnapping MV down by 36.30 percent, and
  • carnapping MC was down by 6.61 percent.
