NLEX, SLEX, LGUs ready plans for Undas traffic —DOTr official
Transportation Assistant Secretary and chief of the InterAgency Council for Traffic retired Brigadier General Manuel Gonzales on Wednesday said plans are already in place for the coming All Saints' Day (Undas).
In I-ACT's meeting with different government agencies on Tuesday, the operators of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) said they will provide additional tellers in anticipation of the heavy volume of vehicles, Gonzales said in an interview on GMA News' Unang Balita.
Construction and road repair work on NLEX and SLEX will also be suspended over the All Saints' Day holidays so as not to contribute to traffic build-up.
Local government units and I-ACT, meanwhile, have identified critical areas that may cause traffic congestion.
Among the plans mapped out are designating drop-off points and parking spaces near cemeteries and mobilizing traffic enforcers in these areas.
"Handa po kaming tumulong na i-augment ang traffic enforcers nila," Gonzales said.
He added that LGUs are to issue their rerouting plans by this weekend.
Gonzales said that as per the directive of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, operations of airports and seaports will be 24/7 over the All Saints' Day holidays.
All Saints' Day (November 1) and November 2 have been declared special non-working days.
Filipinos are expected to troop to their home provinces to visit the tombs of their loved ones on those days. —KG, GMA News
