DOJ considering provisional WPP coverage for Mangaoang

The Justice Department (DOJ) was considering provisional Witness Protection Program (WPP) coverage for Customs Deputy Collector Atty. Lourdes Mangaoang, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Sunday.

"I have not seen the application subject to the Senate President’s approval upon recommendation of Senator Gordon," Guevarra told GMA News through a text message.

"I may consider her for provisional coverage under WPP in the meantime,” he added.

Mangaoang said earlier that she wished to placed under the WPP after she allegedly received threats, even before she claimed that the magnetic lifters found in Cavite had contained shabu.

Mangaoang also alleged that then Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña knew of the hidden shabu, but took no action.

Lapeña denied the allegations made against him, and argued that the accusations were linked to the ongoing internal cleansing at the Bureau of Customs. — Dona Magsino/DVM, GMA News
