President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday visited the separate wakes of Metrobank founder George Ty and slain businessman and philanthropist Dominic Sytin.

Both Ty and Sytin lie in state at the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City.

Photos released by Malacañang showed Duterte paying his last respects to Ty and condoling with Sytin's family.

In a statement last week, presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Ty, who died on November 23 at the age of 86, "indeed exemplified the outstanding Filipino."

"Mr. Ty was quoted saying that he 'shared the dream of a better bank' but he would always be remembered for sharing a better society for Filipinos at a time when corporate social responsibility was yet to become the standard norm for companies," Panelo said.

Ty established Metrobank in 1962 and grew the bank to expand its reach internationally.

He ventured beyond banking and transformed Metrobank into a conglomerate with successful joint ventures like Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation, AXA Insurance, and Orix Metro Leasing.

Sytin was the president of the United Auctioneers Inc., a leading auctioneer of imported second-hand trucks in the country. He was shot dead on his way to Lighthouse Marina Resort Hotel in Subic Freeport Zone on November 28.

Sytin's family has offered a P1-million reward for information that could lead to the killer's arrest. — BM, GMA News
