Balangiga residents excited over return of bells

Balangiga residents cannot take their eyes off the television while watching the arrival of the historic bells at Villamor Air Base on Tuesday.

According to a report of Vonne Aquino in "Balita Pilipinas Ngayon," Balangiga residents simultaneously watched the arrival of the bells in the municipal hall, church and in their homes.

One of those who kept watch was 80-year old Eulogia Abanador Amano, who was a niece of Captain Valeriano Abanador, the leader behind the attack against American soldiers in 1900s, the report said.

Eulogia teared up when she saw the C-130 plane carrying the Balangiga bells, while her children and grandchildren clapped as they saw the first bell being brought out.

She said that she cannot explain her feelings, saying it seemed like his grandfather whom she called ‘lolo na apoy bale’ came back to life.

The people at the municipal hall clapped simultaneously as they saw the bells.

Now that the bells are in the country, Balangiga residents await with excitement their homecoming, the report said. —LDF, GMA News
